MIS-100
Manufacturing Inspection System
Automated UT for blade production lines
A gantry-mounted ultrasonic inspection cell sits inside the blade production line. The MIS-100 scans shear webs, spar caps and bond lines immediately after moulding, so a defect is caught while the blade is still at the station and before demoulding. Encoder feedback holds ±0.1 mm, which means the same indication lands on the same coordinate on every re-scan, and that is what makes a 73 % shorter report cycle possible. Running at 500 mm/s, the gantry clears a 100 m bond line in one pass, so the line keeps its takt.

Key capabilities
Inline throughput
500 mm/s is not a bench figure. On a 100 m bond line it means the gantry clears a full run inside one takt window, so the moulding station never waits on inspection.
Phased array & TOFD
Two modalities share the pass on a 256-channel front end. PAUT reads planar delamination and dry laminate, while TOFD catches the porosity cluster a single probe would miss, and both write into one C-scan.
Closed-loop QC
Detected, classified, dispatched. An indication above threshold reaches the MES in under 60 seconds, keyed to the blade serial number, so the operator reworks the blade at the station instead of finding it after demoulding.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the scan speed of the automated blade inspection system?
+
Continuous scanning runs at 500 mm/s, so an 80 m spar cap finishes in one uninterrupted pass instead of a sequence of handheld measurements.
Which NDT methods does the manufacturing inspection system use?
+
PAUT and TOFD run together in one pass. Phased array reads planar delamination and dry laminate, TOFD catches volumetric porosity and voids, so a single traverse covers what two separate scans used to need.
Is the system compliant with IEC 61400-5?
+
Compliance here is documented, not assumed. The MIS-100 reports to IEC 61400-5 for blade manufacturing, and to DNV-ST-0126 and ASTM E2580 for composite ultrasonic inspection.
How does automated UT compare to manual inspection for blade QC?
+
Manual UT leaves the accept call to muscle memory. Encoder positioning holds ±0.1 mm on every repeat scan, which is what makes 100 % bond-line coverage and a 73 % shorter report cycle possible.
Can this system integrate with our MES/ERP?
+
Yes, through REST and OPC-UA. The SAS-300 layer writes each result into your MES and ERP, and a rework instruction reaches the operator in under 60 seconds.
